Urrbody know I love them Harlem Shakes. And for selfish reasons, too. The bigger they get, the more cred I get for saying "hey, I actually know a couple of those guys." Unlike Morrissey, I don't actually hate it when my friends become successful.
But regardless of my own self-serving motivation for buying all their discography (TH now on vinyl) and whoring myself out in their extremely comfortable t-shirts, the simple fact remains: Harlem Shakes are* a fantastic band. And if you get the chance to see them live, take it. This is because their new album is quite good, but they still haven't quite transitioned their live energy (if that's even possible) into a studio recording. One show, and you'll be a believer: I guaransheed it. Anyway, I am pro...
Technicolor Health, their first full-length. I won't waste your time with a full-out review, but here are some highlights:
Harlem Shakes: Strictly Game
Harlem Shakes: Sunlight
Harlem Shakes: Nothing But Change, Pt. I (Bonus Track) There's a UGK shout-out! Clearly, this was made for me. Also, as of posting, you can't find this song on one of those back-alley elbo.ws blogs, so buy the album!
Passion Pit, their current tour-buddies. I realize this puts me in good company along with Kanye West, Mike Skinner, Katy Perry, and oh, just about every music blogger alive today. But feel free to believe the hype, with a pinch of flaky sea salt because this is your ideal fun and entertaining summer album. (But no more, no less, as far as I can tell.) For your listening enjoyment:
Passion Pit: Little Secrets
The aural equivalent of jumping into one of those childhood ballpits, only instead of those small plastic balls, it has those enormous exercise balls. Plus, the floor of the pit is a trampoline. And it's filled with friendly kangaroos. And a children's choir, too.
* Or should I say "is?" Help me out here; writing about English football clubs in the plural (as is proper) is clearly messing with my grammar.
